Your Personal Welcome Letter

To The Athlete Who Feels Broken,

If you’re here, chances are you’re hurting — trying to win the battle within your mind. Maybe you’ve just received news of a new injury. Maybe you’re deep in the middle of rehab and have reached a point of hopelessness. Or maybe you’re preparing for your return and feeling overwhelmed by doubt. Maybe... you simply don’t recognize the person in the mirror anymore.

Wherever you are — I see you. I was you. And I want you to know: you are not alone.

From the moment I heard the words “you tore your ACL” to the moment I stepped back onto the mat for my first competition, I braced myself for what I thought was coming. I tried to prepare for the pain, the surgery, the slow walk on crutches, the hopelessness, the loss.

But what I didn’t expect... was the silence.
The silence that settles in when you no longer feel like yourself.
The way your sport moves on without you.
The way your identity starts to unravel.
The questions. The doubt.

This is the part no one prepares you for.
The identity crisis. The fear. The pressure to be “mentally tough” when you’re falling apart inside.

But here’s the truth: all it takes is a decision.
A decision to look through a different lens. To recognize that your comeback has already started — not when you return to the field or finish your last set, but right here, in how you choose to face this moment.

For me, that moment changed everything. Not just in sport, but in life. Through the choices I made — especially mentally — I realized something powerful: I can overcome anything. And so can you.

As you explore this space, you’ll find tools that helped me rebuild not just my body, but my spirit. You’ll hear the voices of athletes who’ve lived it, and those of the experts who guided them. This is a space that encourages you to sit in the dark — and still choose to believe in the light, even on the days you don’t feel strong.

You are not broken. You are simply rebuilding.

This space is yours. Come as you are.

With you,
Nyla Valencia
